Dr. Cathy Richardson/Kinewesquao is a Metis/Cree/Dene counsellor and University professor specialising in violence prevention and recovery. In addition to her work at the University of Montreal, she has a private therapy practice and is the Spokesperson on Indigenous Affairs for the Green Party of Quebec.

Her interests are violence prevention, including violence towards Indigenous women and girls. She is an advocate for police and child protection reform to end racial profiling and mother-blaming in social services. She is interested in the intersections between the treatment of women and the treatment of the Earth.

Cathy is currently working at the Segal Theatre in Montreal, offering facilitation and emotional support for “Children of God”, a play about the residential internment of Indigenous children in Canada. She is a research leader in Quebec on a number of studies, including the Canadian Domestic Homicide Initiative with Vulnerable Populations; a study on the Metis presence in Quebec, and various story-telling based projects with Indigenous youth, related to culture, identity and well-being. She has three published books and is in the process of editing two more, on the topics of structural violence against youth in Canada and Metis social policy.

Cathy is a co-founder of the Centre for Response-Based Practice and continues to develop applications of this work with her colleagues Allan Wade, Linda Coates and Shelly Bonnah.

Cathy is a mother of three children and lives with her partner, Isaac, in Montreal.
