Dealing with Difficult People

Session overview

This workshop has been designed for people who have to deal with "difficult" clients, colleagues or managers. "Difficult” people may range from those you simply find irritating or frustrating to deal with, to those who are distressed, irrational or actively hostile or aggressive. The aim of this one-day workshop is to provide some understanding of your own and others' communication and behaviour patterns and some practical skills for responding to and dealing with the behaviours you find difficult.

What’s covered

  • Describe and define the people, behaviours and situations you find difficult.
  • Manage and modify your own responses to difficult people.
  • Use techniques to manage others' emotional and physical behaviours.
  • Learn some practical approaches to minimise the likelihood of hostile or aggressive actions and to calm down distressed or aggressive people.

Who should participate?

This training is essential for staff and volunteers to meet one of the four Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) training requirements.
