Description

For GPs, Nurses & Pharmacists

This education session will provide updated information on how to identify the causes of end stage respiratory failure. Prof Gregory Crawford will present on discuss various treatment therapies, referral pathways available within the NALHN region and information on Advance Care Planning for patients. Presenter, Christina Adamopoulos will provide an update on the Palliative Care Access to Core Medicines project, which collaborates with GPs and pharmacists to improve access to medicines for end-of-life care in the community.

Learning outcomes

  • Describe the causes of end stage respiratory failure - COPD, pulmonary fibrosis and lung cancer.

  • Identify treatment therapies including opioids for breathlessness.

  • Discuss how primary health care can support patients and identify referral pathways to palliative care services in NALHN.

  • Outline the importance of advanced care planning for lung disease.
