Event description

Description

In this talk you will learn about the history of Chinese Australian families from the 1860s to the 1930s, and about how to research them. Focusing on 8 essential sources, we will explore topics such as understanding Chinese names and how to track ancestors back to China.

The speaker is Dr Kate Bagnall who is a historian specialising in Chinese migration and settlement in Australia, particularly in New South Wales. Much of Kate's work has focused on Chinese Australian families, women and children. Kate is currently a research fellow at the University of Wollongong, and she has previously worked at the National Archives of Australia and as a freelance historian in Canberra.
