Description

Research Skills Seminar Series 2017

Rapid Critical Appraisal of Scientific Literature
13 October 2017

**Registrations Open 22 September

A 21st century clinician who cannot critically read a study is as unprepared as one who cannot take a blood pressure or examine the cardiovascular system.” Glasziou et al. BMJ 2008:337:704-705

Given the sheer volume of published papers and their variable quality even in high impact journals, having skills to carefully appraise scientific literature to answer current clinical questions is key.

This seminar provides simple strategies to help focus your reading, examine validity of results, and decide whether to accept and apply them in your setting.

Presenter: Associate Professor Sue Skull

Associate Professor Sue Skull is a paediatrician, epidemiologist, and public health physician. She is an experienced teacher of research methods and enjoys helping others improve and enjoy their research experience. She is Head of the Research Education Program at PMH.
