Seminar Synopsis:

All new research project applications must cover requirements for both ethics and governance. This seminar focuses on the general principles and responsibilities related to research governance, and provide practical tips for preparation of governance applications. It also covers recent changes to state and national governance frameworks and implications for researchers.

Presented by: 

Katherine Coltrona - Manager, Research Governance, Telethon Kids Institute

Katherine has 30 years of experience in the health and medical research sector and the biotechnology industry. She spent the first 15 years of her career as a clinical nurse and educator both in Perth and London; followed by the past 15 years within health and medical research support services, including research development, ethics, governance, translation and innovation. Career highlights include the development and introduction of the WA Health research governance framework, WA and National Mutual Acceptance single ethical review schemes and the Research Governance Service (RGS) IT system, which was a 2017 Finalist in the WA Health Excellence Awards. In addition, Katherine coordinated the WAHTN 2020/2021 Science on the Swan Conference and the Medical Research Future Fund’s Early Career and Biostatistician Fellowships. Katherine has substantial experience in research education, including presentations, videos and RETProgram online training modules in research governance, budgets, RGS and Good Clinical Practice.

The Research Education Program (REP) is an open access resource provided by the Child and Adolescent Health Service (CAHS), Department of Research and is generously supported by the PCH Foundation. The Program provides valuable educational resources to support staff and students of any clinical discipline and level of experience to undertake high quality, meaningful research.

The Program includes the Research Skills Seminar Series, REDCap workshops and resources and the Clinical Audit Handbook.

The CAHS Research Education Program presents the Research Skills Seminar Series, hosted by the Child and Adolescent Health Service and supported by the Perth Children's Hospital Foundation.

We offer free, open-access learning opportunities on key topics across the research process, with comprehensive handouts including additional information and resources.
