Event description

Description

About this event:

Inspired by the Mozilla Global Sprint:

“a fun, fast-paced and two-day collaborative event to hack and build projects for a healthy Internet. A diverse network of scientists, educators, artists, engineers and others come together in person and online to innovate in the open.”

The ResBook Sprint will allow teams from different institutions to virtually join together and workshop the second edition of the ResBook.

Prior to the event, teams will receive a template for chapter submission (much like the first edition followed). This will help in the editorial phase of the second edition’s production.

The event will touch on the 3 core values of ResBaz: community, diversity and open access. Collaboration across sites will mean that teams can share ideas for pedagogy (how to teach digital research tools with purpose), writing format (how to make demonstrate these tools through texts and images), and event planning (how to ensure a successful ResBaz conference/workshop).

Utilities

  • Teams will gather virtually via Google video.

  • Best to book a large, quiet space where attendees can come and go freely

  • A run-time or agenda should be published prior to the sprint to give attendees structure.

  • An Etherpad will be set up so each site can openly document what they’re working on. When new site join they can either contribute to things sites before have worked on, or start a new project.

  • Each site will have an assigned coordinator who can liaise with other coordinators in the lead up to the event to make sure everything has been successfully organised. A coordinator event will be planned before the sprint to explain and detail what sort of contributions the ResBook is looking for.
