Description

Liz Yeo, CEO, Newtown Neighbourhood Centre (NNC) and Connie Henson, CEO, Learning Quest, invite you to join us for breakfast as we reveal the findings from a sector first evaluation of a recent place-based volunteer outreach program to address homelessness in the Inner West.

In response to a 1,300% increase in street homelessness, Newtown Neighbourhood Centre implemented a Community Homeless Outreach Project designed to expand assertive outreach by engaging and training local volunteers to reach out to rough sleepers.

Twenty "Newtopian Outreachers" were recruited and trained in homelessness and then these wonderful Newtopians, led by Newtown Neighbourhood staff, conducted weekly outreach by walking the streets and providing housing & service related information to our rough sleepers.

Connie will share the results & insights from her evaluation of this innovative community project which demonstrate a positive impact on volunteers, NNC staff & the homeless community.

You’ll learn about the powerful insights and applications this project has for the Philanthropic, Corporate and Not for Profit sectors.

Liz and Connie will also share the Centre’s ideas for a proposed Phase 2 of the Outreach project and will be seeking your advice on the potential for its application in the Sydney CBD context - both as a leadership program for Corporate employees and as a community based program for local residents.

We look forward to seeing you there!
