Event description

Description

This 2 day workshop is suitable for anyone interesting in learning some basic skills and techniques in book repair. You will be guided through some of the foundation techniques used to repair those cloth covered bookbindings often found on the bookshelves of a second hand bookshop.

Under the guidance of the Tutor participants will learn ways of repairing damaged sewing, reattaching the boards, toning repair materials, repairing corners and endcaps and the rebacking a damaged book spine. By the end of the workshop you will have repaired at least one book that can be safely handled and read. Bring along a book you would like to repair or we can provide you with a book.

This workshop is suitable for absolute beginners in bookbinding or book repair. Class sizes are limited to 4 participants to ensure individual attention is given to all students by the Teacher. Tutor, Karen Vidler is an Adelaide-based bookbinder and book & paper conservator with many years experience teaching book repair skills in the UK, Europe and Australia. For interstate and overseas participants some free accommodation is available. Email Lynne bcsbindery@gmail.com for details.
