RNP targets the development of core social and emotional skills required when networking and building relationships with key stakeholders

About this event

Networking is a core part of Academia, and critical for effective research collaborations with external partners. If undertaken haphazardly, you will not benefit. However, if you apply a strategy linked to your career and research goals, you will be rewarded beyond measure.

Whether you are looking for career advancement, being published, presenting at conferences and being invited onto grant applications, you will need a solid network to support you.

The Relationship Networking Program (RNP) is a professional development program hosted by UNSW Canberra and delivered by training expert company Relatus that targets the development of the core soft, social and emotional skills required when networking. It develops the critical reasoning skills to enable academics to strategically utilise their current networks, develop new networks beneficial to their career development and make best use of networking opportunities.

This program will be delivered on site at UNSW Canberra in two full days (one day in August, the second day in September). Please select BOTH dates when registering for tickets.

Learning Outcomes

By completing this workshop series, Academics will be able to:

• Devise an impactful positioning message and know how to educate others about what you do

• Start, lead and leave memorable conversations to be comfortable and charismatic when networking

• Learn ways to manage nerves and develop the right mind-set

• Understand principles and impact of effective communication in relation to listening, questioning, verbal and non-verbal communication

• Actively manage how others perceive you and positively build your profile

• Stay top of mind to your entire network through a practical and personalised (high and low) touch point plan

Testimonials from UNSW's 2021 program:

"The most valuable part for me is that I learned how to be purposeful about networking. When I first started the workshop, I thought it would again be about communication and charisma in a way it would just repeat what numerous workshops have done before. I never imagine there was so much science about networking and you could be very strategic and organized about it. It was the key for me to put all of the knowledge to good use. The why is almost more important than the how.”

“The most valuable part for me was negotiating mutually beneficial partnerships, and embedding a culture of reciprocity”
