Author:

Douglas has over 20 years of specialist anaesthesia experience, mainly in private practice in Adelaide, with interests in neuroanaesthesia and workflow improvement. He regularly teaches registrars at Calvary Wakefield Hospital and nurses at the major private hospitals. His early general medical career was in public hospitals in Adelaide and the Royal Australian Navy. Douglas then returned to Adelaide to train in anaesthesia and retrieval medicine.

The author has a keen interest in the future of humanity and its healthcare, is a cancer survivor, and has incorporated his professional and personal research and experiences in a book ‘Reimagining Healthcare’ that helps doctors and administrators reduce risk and cost in healthcare by breaking down healthcare silos. We achieve this through understanding how to improve healthcare outcomes by using business processes as clinical tools.

He has spoken at state (ASA/AMA), national (ANZCA, MIGA) and international (ANZCA) meetings, and published on medical and non-medical topics. Douglas has a Graduate Diploma of Management (GDM) and is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD) with pro bono state and national experience with the Australian Medical Association and the Australian Society of Anaesthetists.

Douglas grew up in the Barossa Valley and Tasmania. He is married to Liz, with two adult children. He enjoys learning, travel, motor car rallies, boats, cross-country cycling, tennis and snow-skiing. Douglas believes education provides individuals with the most opportunities in life and supports a number of charities in this area.
