Event description

Description

Electronic health records (EHRs) are an essential element of a learning health system, and informatics can help in reimagining how EHRs are used. Using examples from the University of Utah, Dr. Chapman will describe how informatics acts as an interface among data collection, research and analysis, and clinical practice. She will provide a vision for EHR use that extends beyond one institution or one vendor so that the impact of innovation can extend beyond local boundaries.

Wendy Chapman is the chair of the Department of Biomedical Informatics at the University of Utah. Her research focuses on extracting information from clinical notes with natural language processing. She serves on the board of AMIA and is an elected member of the U.S. National Academy of Medicine.
