Description

This workshop is a professional development activity designed for registered and enrolled nurses to enhance their skills in clinical rehabilitation.

The workshop will cover:

  • the role of the nurse in rehabilitation
  • rehabilitation and spinal cord injury
  • rehabilitation and traumatic brain injury
  • rehabilitation and stroke
  • rehabilitation and the older person
  • rehabilitation perspectives on bowel and bladder management
  • rehabilitation perspectives on pain management
  • sexuality and acquired disability
  • processes of rehabilitation
  • working with families
  • patient-centred goal setting
  • rehabilitation therapy intensity
  • rehabilitation – Voices of Experience – Consumer Panel

Course Presenters

The workshop will be facilitated by recognised leaders in rehabilitation.

Day 1: 6 December

8:15-9:15 am: Introduction to Rehabilitation Nursing by Associate Professor Julie Pryor (Nursing Rehabilitation & Development Leader, Royal Rehab)

9:15-11:00 am: Rehabilitation and Spinal Cord Injury:

  • Pathophysiology of SCI
  • Level of injury and functional abilities
  • Common SCI issues and nursing interventions
  1. Autonomic dsyreflexia
  2. Spasticity
  3. Psychological manifestations and management

Cancellation/Refund Policy

A full refund will be available up until a fortnight prior to course commencement, after which a 10% administration fee will be charged. After course commencement, we regret no refunds can be given however a replacement delegate can be substituted before the commencement of the course. If there are insufficient registrations a fortnight prior to the starting date of the course, then the course will be cancelled and a full refund given.
