This immersive and blended model of professional learning supports school communities across Australia and ASEAN to build an international school partnership.

BRIDGE includes reciprocal visits for teachers in both countries to visit their partner schools and learn first-hand about each others’ culture, community, and school class.

Through online and face-to-face professional learning in Australia and ASEAN, BRIDGE:

  • builds teacher capability and pedagogy to connect classrooms to the world and grow sustainable school partnerships.
  • develops global competencies in students across Australia and ASEAN by facilitating student online collaboration, supporting language learning, building digital capability, strengthening intercultural understanding and developing life-long friendships across the region.
  • establishes sustainable school partnerships and a community of learners.
  • encourages students to learn about and develop an interest in the region, as well as explore opportunities such as the New Colombo Plan and Australia Awards post-schooling.

In March/August 2018, teachers from Brunei, Cambodia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Laos, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam will be invited to travel to Australia to take part in a four-day professional learning program with their sister school representatives from across Australia to explore the new partner relationships and how to plan for sustainable school partnerships through intercultural understanding and the use of new technologies in teaching and learning.

Both the Australian and ASEAN country homestay visits for all BRIDGE teachers are designed to develop and share professional best practice and provide opportunities such as:

  • partnership planning
  • classroom observation
  • team teaching
  • participation at staff meetings
  • curriculum team meetings
  • parental engagement
  • school excursions
  • incursions for teachers to form an understanding of their partner countries education context

Australian teachers will then be given the opportunity to visit their sister school in late 2018 or early 2019.

For Australian schools: Asian language ability is not a requirement to take part in this program, although it can offer added learning outcomes.

For schools in ASEAN: A good command of the English language is required to be able to participate in the program.

Successful applicants will be required to contribute $750 towards their participation in the program which includes all professional learning, 12 months of AEF partnership support and international travel and accommodation for the one-week in-country professional learning program.

Please note that Indonesian schools can't register for the Australia-ASEAN BRIDGE School Partnerships Program. However they can register to be part of the 2018 Australia-Indonesia BRIDGE School Partnership Program.
