About this event

Regional Staff Network events provide an opportunity for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander employees of the Victorian public sector to come together for shared learning experiences and networking in a culturally safe environment.

In this workshop you’ll learn how to bake damper with Meriam chef, Nornie Bero. Nornie will make a variety of dampers in Torres Strait Islander style - wrapped in banana leaves and baked with pumpkin, wattleseed and saltbush varieties. She'll share tips on how to get the perfect damper softness, and where to source ingredients. You can buy the ingredients here so you can follow along.

The session is being run by Mabu Mabu, a Torres Strait owned and run business with an emphasis on using fresh, seasonal and native ingredients to create beautiful dishes that bring people together. Mabu Mabu is a registered member with the Kinaway Chamber of Commerce.

The session will run for 60 minutes (1 hour) and be immediately followed by a 30-minute yarning circle so you can debrief, network, or just have a yarn.

We’re running each workshop multiple times so pick the date and time most convenient for you.

This is a free online workshop, so no matter what region of Victoria you’re from, you can participate and connect with your Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander colleagues virtually.

Once you register, you’ll be sent information on how to access the session online.
