Description

Presented as a partnership between staff in the Hunter Region from CAMHS, headspace (Maitland and Newcastle), the Mental Health Line, the Hunter New England Central Coast Primary Health Network, the Department of Education and the Catholic Schools Office. This jam-packed workshop will cover the essentials of making a mental health referral including:

  • CAMHS; the referral criteria, how to refer, what CAMHS do and don't do, timeframes and urgency of response, and a brief overview of the model of care

  • headspace; the referral criteria, how to refer, managing safety after referral, closing the loop on referrals, timeframes and waitlists, how schools can work with headspace

  • Mental Health Line; process including triage, what constitutes a referral to a mental health service, what information to include when making a referral

  • GPs; mental health care plans

  • Primary Health Network; Patient Info site and referral pathways for local services besides CAMHS and headspace

  • Schools; best practice before, at and after making a mental health referral to a service.
