About the Panellists

Jessica Cruz

Associate, Cyber Security (Advanced Thread Services) - PwC

Jess is a graduate with the PwC Cybersecurity and Digital Trust team. Her day-to-day involves working with different clients to improve their security posture – this includes security/risk assessments, developing incident response plans, and performing penetration tests.

She has always had a passion for technology and found her passion for security while studying the Bachelor of Software Engineering at RMIT. To prepare for her career with PwC, Jess attended workshops, conferences, Meetups and completed a lot of self-study. IT moves quick, security moves faster, so continuous learning is imperative to landing a role and to keep progressing in this industry.

Sean Lynch

Planning Assistant - Urbis

Sean graduated from the Master of Urban Planning program at RMIT as an international student in 2019 and is currently a Planning Consultant at Urbis, a multi-disciplinary property services firm.

Formerly a chef, Sean had a career change and during his studies was lucky enough to work at RMIT including at the RMIT Job Shop where he was exposed to various job-seeking tips and strategies to help gain employment after his studies.

Sean remains passionate about helping current students and graduates find jobs in their fields, acting as a Mentor in the RMIT and Planning Institute of Australia Mentoring Programs and has been a committee member of the Victorian Young Planners committee the past 3 years.

Julia Gibney

Consultant - Jvat

Julia started in Defence as an Avionics Technician in 1994. She then undertook engineering degree studies at RMIT in 2008- 2012. From there she proceeded to complete a Graduate Diploma in Aviation (Human Factors) at Swinburne University and a Master in Airworthiness in 2016 - 2017, also at RMIT. Julia left Defence in 2017 and started a new career an engineering safety professional within the rail industry. An interesting fact about Julia is that while studying full time at RMIT for both degrees, she was a single parent to two daughters.

She is currently working with an Engineering Management Consultancy firm as a System Safety and Technical lead. She has proven skills in System Safety, Human Factors and Regulatory Compliance. She is extremely passionate about all aspects of safety, from design to delivery, operations and maintenance.
