Description

Increasing misuse and harms associated with prescription medication is a significant public health issue in Victoria.

Real Time Prescription Monitoring (RTPM) will be implemented throughout Victoria in 2018. This initiative presents an opportunity to promote quality use of medicines and reduce overall prescription drug-related harm.

Key Outcomes

  • Understand the significance of pharmaceutical drug misuse in Victoria and the recognised need for RTPM
  • Describe the general model of the RTPM system and the process for implementation in Victoria in 2018
  • Respond appropriately to the identification of patients misusing pharmaceutical drugs, including application of management strategies and referral pathways
