FAQ's

What is a Real Day Out?

A Real Day Out (RDO) is an immersive experience for students (high school level) and teachers or community members to learn about future careers and job roles whilst developing 21st Century capabilities.

Where do students go?

Students go to interesting workplaces and educational institutions with insight on current and future job roles including what employers expect and how entrepreneurs work including identifying where the STEM is in job roles.

How does it work?

Like a treasure hunt and/or an amazing race, students work in groups to solve clues and work through challenges at each stop. The context is future jobs, applying new discovery technologies (like AR, VR, video, AI, machine learning, social messaging, 3D printing, wearables), and addressing real world problems.

What are the themes for this RDO?

The overarching theme is future jobs and 21st Century Capabilities where each GigCity location has relevant focus areas: Adelaide - .Entrerpeneurship, Internet of Things (IoT), Smart Cities, Social Capital and Carbon Neutral.

How and why might you get involved?

If you are an employer, entrepreneur, industry group, government, educational institution, and/or startup with real world problems to be solved, then this is your opportunity to be involved. You might also be interested in talking to the future workforce and sharing insights on 21st Century careers.

At virtual and actual stops, participants will solve problems for you, whilst learning about current and future job roles, skills required and your organisation. Over the day there will be a challenge to get #RealDayOut trending on social media alongside press, marketing and promotion. There will be a kick off and cap off event where you’ll be recognised and you have the opportunity to network with VIPs, business and industry leaders, key government contacts, technology vendors, educational leaders and students.

How many students visit at a time?

The group sizes can vary to suit your needs in multiples of 6. Across the 4 locations (Tonsley, Thebarton, Adelaide, Northern Adelaide), a few hundred students from ASMS will be involved on the day.

Has this been run before?
