Event description

Description

Now in its seventh year, Ready Set Design is a series of three workshops for Year 11 and 12 students from I Belong schools where you can learn about careers and tertiary programs in design, develop your folio, and practice your interview and presentation skills.

Workshop 2: Folio Bytes
These hands-on workshops explore folio development in different areas of design. All workshops are run by RMIT design teachers and include fashion and textiles, graphic design, building design/architecture, photography and visual art, and drawing for design. You will have the opportunity to participate in one session from the five options below. Please nominate the workshop that most closely matches the area of design you are interested in.

Click ‘register’ and select ONE of the five available workshops - they all run at the same time, so it is not possible to attend more than one session.

WORKSHOP OPTIONS

Fashion & Textiles
Do you enjoy a design process that allows for inspiration and expression of your ideas?

In this workshop, students will create a mood board to express a collage of ideas through illustration, photography, colour, texture and descriptive words. Commonly used in fashion and textile design, it helps define the development and direction of the design process and supports the presentation of design ideas to clients.

After completing this workshop you will come away with concepts or work that can be further developed for a fashion or textile design folio.

Graphic Design
This workshop is for students who are interested in studying graphic design, design or communication design.

You will explore the principles of good graphic design, and use these to develop a poster that responds to a social issue. After completing this workshop you will come away with concepts or work that can be further developed for a graphic design folio.

Building Design/Architecture
This workshop is for students who are interested in studying building design, architectural design or landscape architecture.

After completing this workshop you will come away with concepts or work that can be further developed for an architectural design folio.

Photography & Visual Art
Are you interested in photography and/or visual art? Would you like to enhance the professionalism and impact of your current art and design folio?.

The session will focus on giving students the opportunity to evaluate, layout and refine their current art and design folios, as well as identifying gaps or new areas to potentially explore. Students will be guided through simple but effective Photoshop and photography techniques that can help document their works effectively, and then simple but effective photoshop techniques to help enhance the presentation of those images.

Drawing for Design
This workshop is for students who would like to build confidence and skills in drawing for design. Drawings are used by designers to share ideas with others, and share what's in your imagination.

You will be guided through a series of freehand drawing exercises and approaches to translate 2D and 3D ideas to paper. The skills learnt in this session apply to a broad range of art and design fields including visual arts, illustration, industrial, product or furniture design, jewellery design, automotive or engineering.

Please note: this program is available exclusively to SNAP students whose schools have been invited to participate in I Belong. If you are unsure whether or not your school participates in I Belong, you can check with the SNAP team by emailing SNAP@rmit.edu.au.

After registering, students aged under 18 will receive a confirmation form to be signed by their parent/carer. Students who do not return the signed consent form will be unable to participate.
