Reading Buddies

Does your school-aged child struggle with reading out loud or lack confidence? Our Reading Buddies program is here to help!

Therapy dogs create a safe, supportive space for children to practice reading aloud without fear of judgment. Research shows that therapy dogs can help improve literacy skills, boost confidence, and make reading more enjoyable.

Each 20-minute session offers one-on-one reading time with a trained therapy dog in a  cozy, private space in the library. A dog handler remains in the room throughout the session; parents are welcome to stay and enjoy the experience as well.

Sessions run on the first Saturday of every month, and children can bring a favourite book from home or choose one from the library collection.

• Reading Buddies is facilitated by K9 Connections in collaboration with Bunbury Public Libraries.
• Tickets are strictly limited; bookings are essential.
• This program has a maximum capacity of 1 child per session.
• This program is limited to school-aged children only.
• If you are no longer able to attend, please let us know at 9792 7190 as soon as possible. This enables others on the waitlist to participate and ensures that volunteers' and staff time are best utilised in this program.
• Children under the age of 12 years must be accompanied and supervised by a responsible adult at all times during this event. Visit Child Supervision in the Library for more information.
• Tickets are not refundable.
