Road to Refuge's fourth Read Between the Wines event features
'From Hell to Hell' by Shanmugantathan “Ravi” Navageeren. 'From Hell to Hell' is a collection of poetry and art by former asylum seeker Ravi, and this event will give the opportunity to hear firsthand account of life inside the Nauru detention centre. Ravi fled Sri Lanka due to brutality suffered through civil war and the ongoing persecution of Tamil people. After travelling to Australia by boat, Ravi was held in Nauru Detention Centre for three years. Ravi began writing and drawing during this time.
Ravi will be interviewed by Amy Frew from the Human Rights Law Centre, followed by open Q&A. Guests are invited to stay on for conversation and complimentary nibbles. Wine and beer will also be available to purchase.
Books will be available for purchase at the event for $20, as well as at Readings Hawthorn. The money goes directly to helping Ravi's friends who are still locked in detention, as well as ongoing printing and publishing costs.
