Session overview:


This three hour workshop is designed for CHSP and HCP community care managers, service coordinators, case managers and support staff who are working with people with dementia, their carers and families.


It explores wellness and reablement concepts and practices and how they can be adapted and applied to work with people who have cognitive impairment.


 What will be covered:


  • Central concepts of wellness and reablement practice.
  • Common themes in and outcomes from wellness and reablement strategies with people who have dementia.
  • Lessons from Australian and international research.
  • The foundations of good practice within a wellness and reablement model in supporting people who are cognitively impaired.
  • Establishing the right physical environment.
  • Facilitating and encouraging life participation opportunities.
  • Selecting the right products and technological solutions.
  • Managing risk in working with people who have dementia.



Who should participate?


Priority of access to this training is given to senior staff, managers, case managers & coordinators currently working in Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) funded services located in the local government areas of: The City of Sydney, Woollahra, Waverley, Randwick and Bayside.



How do I  get there? 


There are a number of different transport options for you to choose from depending upon your departure point.  

  • TrainsBondi Junction Train station is located 5 minutes walk (300 metres) away from the Mill Hill Centre.  Trains on this line are T4 Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra lines
  • Driving: metered on street parking is available or use the car park in the Eastgate Shopping Centre, Ebley Street, Bondi Junction - located 1 block away from the training venue.

About the facilitator


Glen Sorenson, founder of Age Communications, works as an independent consultant with all tiers of government, industry peaks, the non-government and private sectors. A facilitator, trainer, researcher, writer and resource developer, Glen has a thorough understanding of policy and program directions in community care, packaged care, consumer directed care, person centred approaches and disability support. His training design and delivery includes competency based vocational training, training package development and train-the-trainer courses.

VAST provides face to face courses, managers' breakfasts, volunteer training, customised training opportunities, including our highly sought after, "Subsidised Training" program. 

VAST is part of the Southern Sydney Connection partnership with 3Bridges and STARS and is a programme of The Junction Neighbourhood Centre.
