Session overview

Have your service users' goals changed since you first asked? Are you stretching your service users' to achieve their best quality of life?

Effective engagement is often hard to define, but we tend to know it (and feel it) when we do it well. Like in any relationship, over time we can become so accustomed to the other person that we forget to be curious about who they are and what they want in life. This training offers a unique opportunity to explore some innovative techniques and approaches aimed at re-invigorating the connections you have with the people you support.

What’s covered

  • Open ended questions and active listening
  • Transcending assumptions and becoming curious
  • Characteristics of engagement - actions, competency, attitude and use of power
  • Developing micro level communication skills
  • Embedding ‘reablment’ and wellness into personal / organisational practice.

Who should participate?

This training is appropriate for those who want to develop or refresh their person centred approach and really make a difference in people's lives. Staff and volunteers working in Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP) / Disability funded services are highly encouraged to attend.
