RCMP Birthing Kit Assembly Day
Sat. 29 April 2017, 10:30 am – 3:00 pm AEST
The United Nations estimates that 385,000 women die annually in childbirth, with developing countries accounting for 99% of these deaths. For every woman who dies in childbirth, another 30 women will incur injuries and infections. Many of these deaths, injuries and infections are preventable.
The Birthing Kits that will be assembled by the Rotary Clubs of Melbourne Park and Balwyn, along with volunteers, will help reduce these statistics. The birthing kit enables a hygienic birthing environment where otherwise a dirt floor and little to no medical equipment would be used. We will assemble items including a plastic sheet, soap, a pair of gloves, a sterile scalpel blade, 3 clean cord ties, and gauze wipes into kits that will be shipped for use by expectant mothers in need.
We will also be having a special guest speaker, who will discuss the impact that creating these kits and donations have, and follow the event with food and a little celebration!
We look forward to seeing you there - you don’t need to bring anything - just an eagerness to help!
What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?
Melbourne Girls Grammar is located in South Yarra, directly across from The Tan (Royal Botanic Gardens). Parking is not available in the school, but there is parking available around the streets nearby. Please take note of parking restrictions in the area.
The School is a 15min walk from the Richmond Train Station and 20min walk from the South Yarra Train Station.
The closest tram stop is Domain Road/Birdwood Avenue (Stop 24) on the Toorak to Moreland line.
