RAMping Up Repro Train-the-Trainer Workshop

 a hands-on workshop to accredit deliverers of the RAMping Up Repro extension initiative 

RAMping Up Repro


RAMping Up Repro is an initiative of Zoetis Australia and Australian Wool Innovation, and is a hands-on workshop aimed at improving ram health, performance and longevity in sheep breeding enterprises.

The Workshop is designed to give producers the skills in both theoretical and practical application across the key components of what drives ram performance and impact on overall breeding enterprise performance.

RAMping Up Repro is an initiative of Zoetis Australia in partnership with Australian Wool Innovation aimed at educating sheep and wool producers with breeding enterprises.


At the end of this workshop participants will:

Be competent in delivering all aspects of RAMping Up Repro workshops in keeping with the expectations of the initiative developers including:

  • Understanding key ram health issues and their management
  • The confidence to instruct workshop particpants in how to conduct their own pre-joining ram inspections
  • Understanding the true costs of rams and what drives their relative values

What's in store?

Training Delivered by Dr Matt Playford (Dawbuts)

  • Coverage of all RAMping Up Repro content and theory
  • Training in the practical components of the RAMping Up Repro workshops including a veterinary-led pre-joining ram inspection and condition scoring
  • Demonstration of a proven workshop template to engage and benefit producer particpants
  • Provision of training and workshop materials

Dr Matt Playford

Matt is the owner of Dawbuts, a company that provides research, training, consultancy and parasitology services to the animal industries. After graduating in veterinary science from the University of Sydney in 1986, he did an internship in pastoral medicine then worked in rural practice in NSW and Victoria.

From 1989 to 1994 Matt undertook research at Hokkaido University, completing a doctorate in parasite immunology.

He taught livestock medicine and managed the large animal teaching practice at the University of
Queensland from 1995-1999, then worked in R&D within a corporate pharmaceutical and as a veterinary consultant before founding Dawbuts Pty Ltd in October 2009.

Matt is active in Camden Rotary Club and is a keen cyclist.
