Raise The Rate For Good: Emergency Town Hall Meeting
Event Information
About this event
Join a national online gathering (via Zoom) of people on JobSeeker and Youth Allowance, community and health workers, faith leaders, local government representatives and concerned citizens for an urgent briefing on the campaign to Raise the Rate for Good.
The afternoon of planning has been called to prepare for a National Day of ActIon on Tuesday July 14, where communities around the nation will be asked to back a permanent and substantial increase to JobSeeker.
After years of dedicated work by people on payments and others who have come together and spoken out about how impossible it is to live on the old JobSeeker rate of $40 a day, we have strong and growing support for Raising the Rate of JobSeeker for Good, from right across the community.
Recent media reports tell us that your pressure is pushing the Government, who temporarily doubled the rate of JobSeeker in late April, to seriously consider a permanent $75 a week raise to JobSeeker as part of their mini-budget on July 23.
But we know that an extra $10 a day is nowhere near enough for people who were struggling to pay their rent, bills, and purchase food and medicines, so we need to raise our voices now to ensure that any increase to JobSeeker, after 26 years without the base rate being lifted, is enough to ensure people can finally get by.
We have never been closer to a permanent raise to JobSeeker and Youth Allowance. We need your help to secure a substantial raise.
