Description

Mr Phil Duncan

Presentation: Defining Operating Limits for Helicopters at Sea – Challenges and Evolution

Phillip graduated from Sydney University with a Bachelor of Science (Maths/Physics) and a Bachelor of Aeronautical Engineering in 1996. He served in the RAAF as an Aerospace Engineer from 1997 to 2004 working predominantly in flight test on fixed wing aircraft including F111 and F/A 18 as well as Blackhawk and Seaking helicopters.

In 2004, he started Prism Defence with Craig Mathews (Test Pilot) and Shane Patch (Flight Test Engineer). Whilst at Prism, Phillip developed software and instrumentation suites to enable development of Ship Helicopter Operating Limits (SHOL) for over 7 Defence forces around the world. Phillip has participated in over 30 flight trial campaigns developing SHOL for 9 aircraft to over 20 different classes of vessel. During those campaigns Phillip performed many roles including (but definitely not limited to) software developer, instrumentation engineer, data manager, duty bridge officer, flight test engineer and trials coordinator.

Members of the RAeS will have an opportunity before the lecture to have a chat with Mr Phil Duncan about his career.
