QUT - THE CUBE (SECONDARY STUDENTS)

Secondary students will participate in rotational activities during the day. There will be four different sessions:

  1. Dino Zoo - Dino Zoo at The Cube is the closest you can get to the real thing – minus the danger of being eaten! Our life-sized dinosaurs are the most scientifically accurate portrayals of these creatures in the world. And, thanks to artificial intelligence, our dinosaurs will even behave like the real thing, based on a set of behavioural parameters for each species. This is the first time that these dinosaurs have been portrayed to this level of accuracy using current movement studies as well as matching their locomotion and stride to existing trackways.

  2. Chem World - Chem World provides an inspiring and hands-on experience of chemistry and its fundamentals. This project allows students to conduct virtual chemistry experiments too dangerous or difficult to run in a classroom.

  3. Mechatronics: bionic arms: Mechatronics: bionic arms:Using the engineering principles of mechatronics, students construct a robot arm from a range of components and motors.

  4. Arduino beginner: blink challenge - Students will take the first steps into real programming using Arduion, with the blink challenge (Arduino beginner: blink challenge)

BOTANIC GARDENS - WHAT’S LIVING IN THE GARDENS (PRIMARY STUDENTS)

In a hands-on approach, students investigate and observe both living (plants and animals), and non-living things in various botanic gardens’ habitats. Observation and investigation opportunities are available for students to collect data and then identify and group things according to characteristics of living, non-living or once-living things.

PARLIAMENT HOUSE (PRIMARY STUDENTS)

The tours start at the Parliamentary Annexe and take approximately 1 hour 30 mins. During the tour you will visit and learn about the Legislative Council (Red Chamber), the Honour Boards, the Mace, the Wind Yarn (the Parliament's didgeroo), the leadlight window, and, on non-sitting days, the Legislative Assembly (Green Chamber). When Parliament is sitting, you will view the Parliament from the Legislative Assembly Gallery.
