Description

OVERVIEW

The Delicate Tension of Digital Technology

The digital age is not only on everyone’s mind in society, industry and politics but also on top of the research agendas of many, many scientists – in any field. At QUT alone, research groups examine the influence of 'the digital' in areas of agriculture, design, innovation, economy, media, entrepreneurship and others.

Over the last decade, my research has examined how digitalization is changing and up-ending many of our 'ways of working' – from regular business process to organisational projects, from large innovation initiatives to small entrepreneurial pursuits. We have studied 'digital' in the field, both with some of Australia’s largest corporations, and with some of the smallest. We have been funded by industry to produce relevant insights, and through national grants, to produce novel theory.

This presentation will reflect on the challenges and opportunities that digitalisation brings – with a focus on the new tensions that it produces for scholarly communities and the way we conduct impactful research and produce new theories.
