Description

Photovoltaic 4.0: Next Generation Renewable Energy Systems Powered by High-Efficiency, Low-Cost Photovoltaics

Professor Masakazu Sugiyama (The University of Tokyo)

Masakazu Sugiyama is a Professor at Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology (RCAST), The University of Tokyo, with an interest in the field of energy systems. He received his PhD in Chemical Systems Engineering from the University of Tokyo, Japan, in 2000. His major research topics are high-efficiency photovoltaic (PV) devices using the nano-epitaxial structures of III-V compound semiconductors and the application to solar-to-chemical energy storage and transport. He is specialized in the epitaxial crystal growth by metalorganic vapor-phase epitaxy (MOVPE), with special attention to in situ monitoring technology, characterization on the behaviour of carriers and photon management in PV devices. His activity is extended to high-efficiency hydrogen production using PV devices and water electrolysis. He authored and co-authored over 240 refereed journal publications and over 420 international conference papers.

Field Demonstration of High Efficiency H2 Production by Concentrator Photovoltaic (CPV) and Water Electrolysis

Professor Kensuke Nishioka (University of Miyazaki)

Kensuke Nishioka is a Professor within the Research Center for Sustainable Energy and Engineering at Japan's University of Miyazaki, where his research focuses on solar cells and semiconductor materials. Prior to joining the University of Miyazaki, Professor Nishioka worked with the Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Science) from Osaka University and a PhD in Materials Science from the Nara Institute of Science and Technology.
