Event description
Bring your solidarity as SGLMG partners with Equality Australia and learn how you can help ensure that we all live with dignity.

About this event

Whether its attempts to ‘cure’ us or experiences of discrimination at school or work, LGBTQI+ people face threats to their safety and wellbeing every day in the name of religion.

While it’s clear that most Australians support LGBTQI+ people, extremist Christian lobby groups are pouring resources into campaigns to stigmatise and marginalise our communities, particularly transgender people.

It’s time to build a strong movement for equality that includes us all.

In this 1.5-hour forum, you will hear from LGBTQI+ people of faith, religious leaders and activists at the coalface of current campaigns and debates on faith, sexuality and gender. Bring your rage, your solidarity and your curiosity as SGLMG partners with Equality Australia and learn how you can help ensure that we are all free to work, study and live with dignity.

Around the world, LGBTQI+ activists are on the frontline of protest, agitation and grassroots community organising. The Queer Thinking series explores activism in our backyard and globally, reflecting on our legacies and contending with our futures.

This Pride Month will see Mardi Gras takeover The Metro Theatre for Mardi Gras Pride Weekender; two days of celebration that also honour Mardi Gras’ history and heritage. Part of Destination NSW’s Sydney Solstice initiative, Mardi Gras Pride Weekender also supports the return of live entertainment, dance parties and large gatherings after a year hiatus post-COVID. Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras (SGLMG) is the non-for-profit member-based organisation that organises the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade and Festival as well as number of other events throughout the year. SGLMG exists primarily to develop the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras for the benefit of Sydney’s LGBTQI community, the enjoyment of a wider audience and as a global beacon of diversity, acceptance and LGBTQI rights. We aim to raise the visibility of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and intersex communities.
