Event description

Description

Privacy Awareness Week (PAW) is an initiative started by the Asia Pacific Privacy Authorities (APPA) back in 2006. Since then, it has been held every year to promote and raise awareness for numerous privacy issues and the importance of protecting personal information.

In 2019, the Office of the Information Commissioner (Queensland) has chosen USC Sunshine Coast as the site for the annual PAW launch event. This year’s theme is ‘Build privacy into your everyday’, which also underpins the broader focus on issues like biometrics, data, de-identification and re-identification.

Join government, legal, academic and commercial experts in a panel discussion on current privacy and cybersecurity issues and developments. This year's panel includes:

  • Philip Green, Queensland's Privacy Commissioner
  • Professor David Lacey, Chair of Cyber Security at USC
  • Leah Mooney, Senior Legal Consultant and lecturer in Cyber and Privacy Law
  • Mark Paddenburg, CEO of Innovation Centre Sunshine Coast

Registration opens at 10:30am and light refreshments will be served until the event officially commences at 11am.
