About this event

QUADROPOD HOUSE

Gabriel Poole is one of Australia's outstanding architectural talents. The mainstay of his practice has been the design of original houses that touch the land very lightly. Poole’s projects are distinguished by a sensitive response to climate and place and by an exploratory attitude to structure, construction and materials.

Quadropod House was originally designed for a family who wished to enjoy uncomplicated but comfortable living. The two-level, three-bedroom house enjoys commanding views and is elegant in its lines and modular spaces.

' My objective is to provide for the here and now. I would hope that my buildings give visual pleasure to those who see them and spiritual pleasure to those who dwell in them.' Gabriel Poole.

SUNRISE STUDIO

Sunrise Studio was commissioned by the new owners of the Quadropod House to complement the house design and to provide a self-contained home for their daughter and grandson.

Bark Architects located the studio lower on the land for privacy and seclusion and positioned the outdoor yoga deck, living and main bedroom to maximise the northeast aspect and ocean views for morning meditation. Transparency throughout the building connects to the outdoors and the bushland setting, while the kitchen, second bedroom and bathroom engage with the natural bushland setting. Key design strategies include modular construction, retention of all existing trees, connection to all spaces through a central 'green' lightwell and roof modules orientated to allow for maximum northern light to enter the spaces.

NOTE: No wheelchair access.
