Event description
SAFEMinds is provided for Queensland state school staff to train in the use of the 'NIP it in the bud!‘ early intervention approach.

About this event

SAFEEMinds: In Practice intends to establish SAFEMinds 'Champions' within Queensland state schools.

This SAFEMinds: In Practice workshop equips school staff to become 'Champions' in the use of the 'NIP it in the bud!‘ early intervention approach and the SAFEMinds Toolkit resources, including: SAFEMinds Online, and how to incorporate SAFEMinds into the school's existing professional learning and student well-being policies and initiatives.

Participants who complete SAFEMinds: In Practice will:

• Develop an understanding of mental health in children and young people and how they can be supported through the SAFEMinds and the NIP it in the bud! early intervention approach.

• Develop an understanding of self-harm in children and young people and how to respond using the NIP it in the bud! early intervention approach.

• Be introduced to the NIP it in the bud! Toolkit and how to use these resources, including the Safe and Healthy Bodies and Safe and Healthy Minds Brief Intervention Kits.

• Be provided an opportunity to use the entire NIP it in the bud! early intervention approach and Toolkit resources by working through a case study.

• Reflect on local implementation of the NIP it in the bud! early intervention approach in your school community.

• Develop an understanding of the SAFEMinds: At Home resources for families.

• Be provided with the knowledge and resources needed to facilitate SAFEMinds presentations to school staff and your parent community.

Who can attend this training?

SAFEMinds: In Practice is open to all Queensland state school staff. Schools should consider how many staff members they nominate to attend, depending on a number of factors including size of their school. It is recommended that a minimum of 2 staff members attend. It is also strongly recommended that the school’s Guidance Officer attends the training.

Suitable staff to attend SAFEMinds: In Practice include:
