Event description
Register for the Online Qld Schools Constitutional Convention for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students to discuss a new preamble

About this event

The program will investigate the constitutional issue: 'Should the Australian Constitution have a new preamble that would recognise our history, our aspirations and the many peoples and groups that make up our nation?'

The program involves pre-reading materials, keynote presentations exploring perspectives on the role and importance of the preamble, and the election of delegates to the National Schools Constitutional Convention held each March.

The online convention will be facilitated through Collaborate Ultra, which can be accessed by state and non-state schools.

Queensland State, Catholic and Independent secondary schools may register a team of up-to-four (4) Year 10 and Year 11 students and one (1) supervisor. Students studying Humanities subjects are well placed to participate in the program.

From each school team, one student can nominate to be a delegate to the national convention, and present a three minute speech on the constitutional issue: ' Should the Australian Constitution have a new preamble that would recognise our history, our aspirations and the many peoples and groups that make up our nation?' Students participating in the convention will elect Queensland's delegates to the National Convention.

Following registration of a school team, including contact details for a school contact, pre-reading materials, a draft program, a weblink and information to support participation in the online convention will be shared.

Inquiries can be directed to the Queensland.SCC@qed.qld.gov.au mailbox.
