About this event
Discover your inner puppeteer and come join professional Spectacle Puppetry Artist Karen Hethey in a creative adventure to make your own bird puppet or mask character as part of the Ngurra Nyujunggamu – When The World Was Soft Project for the Red Earth Arts Festival 2022.
Learn how to use simple techniques in cane bending, paper mache, up-cycled materials and basic mechanism design to make a fantastic puppet that you can bring to life with just a bit of your imagination!
This is a hands on arts workshop and under the supervision of the artist participants will be working with some tools including, hand held cordless drills, Stanley knives, sewing needles, hot glue guns, pva glue and acrylic paint.
Please wear comfortable clothes and shoes that you don’t mind getting paint splashed on or bring along an art shirt.
Participants are asked to- wear loose comfortable clothing suitable for doing physical movement. - bring an object of special importance - a note book
If you have a puppet at home you would like to bring you are welcome to do so.

Ngurra Nyujunggamu is being produced by Juluwarlu with support from the City of Karratha and Principal Partner Rio Tinto for the Red Earth Arts Festival 2022. This project has been assisted by the Australian Government through the Festivals Australia program for Opening Night of REAF 2022 and has received support from the Australia Council for the Arts and the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries
