Event description

Description

Startups are disrupting our world. They are fast, agile, lean and they have the power to affect step-change of entire industries and economies on global scale. To stay relevant in this fast changing world, everybody needs to learn in practice how to innovate like a startup. This is especially relevant for the Australian Public Service. To stay globally competitive Australia does not just need more startups. We need innovation / entrepreneurial culture to penetrate the public sector domain, we need intrapreneurial teams who master the lean startup principles and can adapt (in a highly efficient and cost-effective way = lean) delivery of public service to suit the needs of our customers = the Australian public.

Eligibility: You can sign up for this workshop if you are employed in an Australian public service.

Lean Startup workshops are:

  • Challenging and fast-paced
  • Facilitated by experienced entrepreneurs
  • Active small-team learning

  • Test an idea’s adoption potential

  • Create a growth business model
  • Build the right prototype faster
  • Effectively deal with risk and uncertainty
  • Increase the impact of your ideas and innovations

Specifically, at this half-day workshop you will:

  • Learn in practice how to formulate customer value proposition using Customer-Problem-Solution logic

What 2015 Partcipants Say about this workshop?

  • “Highly educational, practical and fun!”
  • “This is a great workshop for public servants and entrepreneurs alike. Delivered in a practical way with knowledgeable presenters.”
  • “Petr and Craig did a great job presenting this session and were both very experienced in this topic. I am looking forward to implementing this method back at work.”
  • “This Customer-focused method makes practical sense if you want to make sure you are meeting your customers’ needs and solving their problems.”
  • “This is a practical, newbie-friendly introduction to lean and customer validation.”
  • “The course reinforces a fundamental factor in the development of a project (business or otherwise)....understand what the customer really needs, don't just come up with a solution and hope to fix a(n unknown) problem.”
  • “This workshop was a really useful way of thinking about my business opportunity from the customers' perspectives, from the outset, testing assumptions and refining the approach quickly.”
  • “Excellent workshop that provides you with practical methods to plan and conduct customer validation.”
  • “Very useful workshop for understanding start-ups.”
  • “Great opportunity to collaborate with like-minded individuals to learn/apply techniques for validating business ideas by focusing on customers' needs/wants.”
  • “Excellent way to validate user requirements for new start-ups.”
  • “If you want to learn about lean start ups and how to validate customers this is the workshop for you. As a public servant the discipline companies have to apply to succeed is worth learning about. It makes public servants think about how hard it is to succeed and maybe to be more understanding of companies when they are making public policies which affect them.”
