Event description

Description

Hainan Island, located in the southern part of China, is a major tourist hub. Hainan is famous in China for its golden beaches, blue sea and the tropical climate.

There is a Chinese saying “天涯海角” (The end of the sky and the rim of the sea), this refers to Hainan, a distant but quite romantic place, unique and fabulous, just like Tasmania. The next step is to develop Hainan Island as an international tourism Island. This requires upgrading of skills in the tourism industry to cater for international visitors. In this seminar I will discuss in detail the challenges faced by the tourism industry in Hainan and the role played by vocational education in meeting the needs of the tourism industry in Hainan and China.

Ms Ning Li is a Lecturer in the Department of Tourism, Hainan Technician Institute, China. She has a research interest in Tourism management and education and is currently a Visiting Scholar at the Asia Institute Tasmania until August 2018.
