Join our session for parents/carers who are supporting young people with Down syndrome through the important life stage of puberty.
This session is for parents/carers who are supporting young people with Down syndrome through the important life stage of puberty.
Participants will learn about how to:
- talk about the physical and emotional changes that occur in puberty
- support your young person to navigate this important life stage
- develop strategies to teach and support the important concepts related to public and private behaviour.
Presenter: Kardie Whelan
Kardie has a Bachelor of Applied Science (Disability), and has worked in a variety of disability settings, special schools and TAFEs. She has been at Sexual Health Victoria (formerly Family Planning Victoria) for 18 years as a sexuality educator for people with cognitive disability of all ages. Kardie also provides learning to professionals and volunteers working in the disability sector, education consultations to care teams and families, and facilitates information sessions for parents and carers.
