About this Event

This talk will give a broad overview of the use of psychedelics in the treatment of psychiatric conditions, taking in the first wave of clinical psychedelic treatment and the current resurgence in clinical interest and research. Paul will discuss psychedelic compounds, the nature of psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy, key clinical findings over the past 15 years, risks and safety considerations, regulatory developments, potential therapeutic mechanisms, and future avenues for research and development

PRESENTER: Paul Liknaitzky is a Research Fellow at Deakin University and Odyssey House Victoria. Paul has an Honours in Neuroscience and a PhD in Psychology (University of Melbourne). His work examines mechanisms of mental illness and treatment development, primarily within depression and addiction research. Paul has extensive knowledge and experience in the development of psychedelic-assisted treatments for mental ill-health, and is focused on understanding what works, for whom, and why. Paul promotes an explorative discourse and applied research in psychedelic medicine towards improving clinical outcomes, mitigating risks, and developing synergistic methods to sustain the change.
