Event description

Description

Do you wonder how to transform your rural block into the healthy, productive small farm that you have dreamed of? Are you confused about where to start? Here is a chance to get some expert help at a bargain price. The Small Farms Network Capital Region Property Planning workshop with David Hardwick can help you find the answers. David is an agroecologist from Soil, Land and Food who specialises in property planning, ecological farming and training farmers. He will lead you on a journey of discovery to find the potential of your land and you, the people who care for it.

The workshop will take you through the steps of property planning along with looking at landforms, climate and soils and setting your vision and goals. David will help you create an action plan including organising the elements of your farm to develop a healthy and productive landscape.

Subsidised soil testing is offered as an option for this workshop. When you purchase a soil test you will receive a second soil test for free and we have organised a Farmers Postcard session to help with interpreting the results.

Day 1 - Sunday 5 May 2019 9.00am-3.30pm (Carwoola)

Day 2 - Saturday 29 June 2019 9.00am - 3.30pm (location to be decided at the first workshop)

Cost

The workshop costs $64.39 with up to two participants/farm able to attend. The fee includes morning tea and lunch for both days.

As part of the planning package participants have the opportunity to purchase a soil test at a reduced rate of $133.00. By purchasing a soil test you will receive a second soil test for free. The soil test results will be discussed at the Farmers' Postcard - Soils after Sunset event on Wednesday 19 June 2019 (register for this separately).

An A3 scaled and professionally printed aerial farm map is available for purchase for an additional fee of $26.25. Alternatively, you can supply your own aerial map. Either way, you must have a map. You can purchase the soil test and farm map when you book. All prices listed above include the booking fee charged by Eventbrite.

Course delivery

The format will include class room sessions, a soil sampling demonstration and farm walks.
