Description

SSSHARC Ultimate Peer Review of Promises and Lies: Wiradjuri Experiences of Australian Modernity

Cutting through swathes of myth-making by nation-builders, anthropologists and historians, this book spans two centuries of Wiradjuri trauma, humour, hope and achievement as their country became the pastoral and agricultural heartland of NSW. Relegated to historical oblivion, social values and moral authority nevertheless sustained a Wiradjuri distinctive lifestyle over time. This remarkable history presents a fresh perspective on failed government policies, examining why current policy is more destructive for Wiradjuri people than even the violence of the frontier.

In this Ultimate Peer Review, University of Sydney researcher Dr. Gaynor Macdonald will her defend her work. Professor Sylvie Poirier (University of Laval, Quebec), known for her inquiries into Australian Aboriginal and Native Canadian ontologies will act as the interlocutor and critical ‘opponent’ with the aim of helping the work realize its full potential.

Drinks and Nibbles from 5:30pm.
