Project 8 – Creating positive messages

South East Arts is excited to announce Project 8 - an inspiring music and digital media workshop program for the next generation of creative spirits, to promote positive messages about staying safe and having fun. The series of free workshops for young people (ages 14-20) will use music, digital technology and video, and will be led by a number of established local artists in a variety of disciplines.

The first introductory workshop will be held on Thursday 18 April at the Bega TAFE campus. FREE LUNCH!

Young participants will be invited to create a pitch to their peers on healthy lifestyles, partying safely and harm minimisation using song, digital technology, photography and video media. The workshops are an opportunity for young people to grow their creative and team building skills, as well as their resume.

Singer songwriter Jazz Williams, digital artist Scott Baker and videographer Kyle Wilson, along with special guests, will bring their unique skills to the Project 8 workshops.

There will be a series of 8 workshops over the year, run in Bega, Eden and Cobargo during school holidays in April, July and Sept/October. The introductory workshop in April (Bega) will briefly cover the different media of music, video and digital media. Young people can choose to continue participating in other workshops during the year.

Project 8 is made possible by grant of $21,900 from the Australian Government through the Alcohol and Drug Foundation, led by South East Arts in partnership with the Local Drug Action Team (LDAT) and other agencies, aimed at preventing and reducing alcohol and other drug-related harms at a grass roots level. The funding, which is on top of an initial $10,000 received by the community partnership, supports the implementation of the Local Drug Action Team’s Community Action Plan.

Bega Valley LDAT is a partnership between South East Arts, CDAT, Dept Juvenile Justice, Head Space Grand Pacific Health, BVSC, Far South Coast Family Support Service and Australian Red Cross Narooma.

By 2020 there will be more than 200 Local Drug Action Teams across Australia. For more information about the Local Drug Action Team Program please visit www.adf.org.au/ldat.
