PROGRAZE® for small farms
Sat. 25 February 2017, 10:00 am – 3:00 pm AEDT
Are your sheep up to their armpits in grass? Do you have lots of grass but don’t know if it is good for your livestock? Do you know how to manage your feed throughout the year? PROGRAZE® for Small Farms can help you answer these questions and many more.
PROGRAZE provides skills for landholders to assess land management characteristics influencing pasture and animal production. The course is designed for people grazing sheep and cattle but the principles also apply to grazing horses and alpacas. PROGRAZE is designed to help you:
develop skills in pasture and animal assessment, and
use these skills to improve the productivity and sustainability of grazing systems.
This is a hands-on workshop where the days are run on the participants' properties. You get to see and learn about pasture and livestock management across the seasons. This course can help you improve your knowledge of pastures and plants growing at your place. Participants will also learn about creating pasture and livestock management plans.
Col Langford will lead the course and is one of the original developers of PROGRAZE. Col is a former Sheep and Wool Officer with the NSW Department of Agriculture with over 40 years’ experience. He is now on the team of the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR), an Adjunct Research Associate at CSU and an Agricultural Consultant.
PROGRAZE for Small Farms will begin in February 2017, with eight half-day workshops held on local farms over a 10 month period. The date of the first field day will be determined once registrations are completed. Please note that the date on the Eventbrite booking service is for the purpose of registrations only. The proposed date for the first workshop is 24 or 25 of February 2017.
