Thinking critically about education policy: Understanding and respecting Indigenous Peoples in teaching and learning practices
Presenter: Dr Christine Grima-Farrell

The purpose of this presentation is to equip classroom teachers, coordinators and school leaders with practical approaches to enhance student engagement and learning whilst building collaborative classroom cultures.

This workshop content merges research and practice in meaningful ways for school and classroom based applications. It is unique in that it builds on my research work that was informed by the voices of experienced teachers who were looking at ways in which research could be applied to differentiate instruction and process to address the needs of a diverse range of students. It will benefit classroom teachers, coordinators and school leaders a specific teaching strategies that merge social and emotional learning to maximize academic gains will be presented.


About the Presenter

Dr Christine Grima-Farrell is an experienced school teacher, special educator and teacher educator. She is President of the NSW Institute of Educational Research and Convenor of the Australian Association of Research in Education Teachers’ Work and Lives special interest group. Chris was awarded a NSW Premier’s Teaching award for Excellence in her work in the area of Inclusive Education and Research to Practice initiatives. Her Phd was awarded the 2013 Beth Southwell Outstanding Doctoral Thesis Award and the Charles Sturt University Most Outstanding Thesis award. Some of her research has been published in her latest Book: What matters in a research to practice cycle? Teachers as researchers (2017). Chris has also been honoured with an Australian Government Citation for Outstanding Contribution to Student Learning and holds University Excellence in Teaching Awards. She continues to live her scholarly work as she strives to raise awareness of ways to merge research and practice to support the diverse needs of students through promoting collaborative partnerships.
