Event Details

This Seminar is a day-long, stand alone event which is offered as part of a for-credit intensive within Tabor's accredited awards (February 12 to 16) entitled ‘Spiritual Life of the Minister’ taught by Dr Stuart Devenish.

Major Dr Christine Unicomb
(Salvation Army) will be presenting on Thursday, February 15, on the topic "Spiritual Resilience and Well-Being in Ministry".

Research tells us that burnout among clergy is high and as Christine has found recent research is giving us the other side of the picture.

The day will comprise four sessions that equip men and women in ministry and leadership:

Session 1: Letters from the Trenches
Research tells us that burnout among clergy is high. Recent research is giving us the other side of the picture; i.e., what pastors and ministry-workers are doing well to produce resilience, well-being and longevity in ministry.

Session 2: Christine’s Research on Spiritual Resilience
What pastors reported to Christine about spiritual resilience and well-being. In this session, Christine will report on the Findings from her research, and what she learned.

Session 3: Factors Leading to Spiritual Resilience
This is the first of 2 ‘application’ sessions, applying the principles of spiritual resilience to men and women on the coalface of Ministry. There will be opportunity for self-reflection on your own practices that contribute positively/negatively to spiritual resilience and well-being.

Session 4: Making it happen, putting it all together...
This is the second of 2 ‘app application’ sessions. It will ask – and answer – the questions; ‘Where to from here? How can I flourish in ministry, and How can those to whom I minister grow in positivity, resilience and well-being?

Tabor

At Tabor our teaching and learning is underpinned by a shared faith in Jesus Christ. This is not to say that we are dogmatic - our faith is a sure faith but not a closed faith! Tabor is, at the same time, a place of robust enquiry and transformational Christian learning.  The explicitly multi-denominational nature of Tabor means that our community is enriched both by the insights that flow from the great Christian traditions and the vitality that flows from more contemporary expressions of Christian faith.
