Want to take your film making skills to the next level and take control of your vision?

The aim of this Short Course is to provide you with the knowledge and skills needed to help manage your own short film projects and gain employment in the art department and film & television industry.


  • An insight into the philosophy of set design.
  • Identify the different job titles within the art department and understand their individual roles.
  • Discuss industry policies, procedures and etiquette.
  • Present design ideas and concepts according to industry standards.
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of the design process according to industry requirements.
  • Produce a props list for various departments.
  • Insight into tips and tricks of how to set up.
  • Draft a budget.
  • Students will complete a design package which will demonstrate their knowledge and skills. This package could be used as a presentation tool for future employment opportunities. 

$400 early bird (20% discount - valid until 17/8/17 at 5:00pm).

Production design can make a film come to life! 

This course will be taught by Kerri Ainsworth. Kerri is a production designer and creative director with over 25 years experience working in the film, television and events industries.


Kerri has designed and art directed feature films, television series, commercials, corporate videos, doco dramas, special events, exhibition stands, conferences, gala dinners and commercial interiors. The scope of her practice includes designing and project managing the fabrication and installation of large-scale artworks and environments for Special Events and Public Spaces. She has created and produced installations and experiential spaces for clients such as: Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority, The Star Casino, Telstra, IBM, QANTAS, Virgin Airlines, AMP, Visa, Panasonic, Commonwealth Bank, University of Technology Sydney and SOCOG.

*Classes will run from 6:00pm - 9:00pm each Thursday night (7/9, 14/9, 21/9, 28/9, 5/10, 12/10) for the 6 weeks.
*All courses will be held on campus at AFTT.
*Each course must have a minimum of 8 students to run.
*The content is suitable for students aged 18+.

*AFTT has the right to cancel any course due to unforeseen circumstances in which case attendees will be advised and a refund issued.
*All participants will receive a Certificate of Completion.
