Event description

Description

Traditionally, the “process of research” is a “life skill” that academics assimilate somewhat haphazardly and imperfectly, in a piecemeal fashion over many years during their academic career. Even in more recent times, while particular key elements of the process are covered formally or informally in PhD coursework, doctoral students have a highly varied experience in this regard. This course outlines the full spectrum of the research process with a mindset of quantitative empirical work. The core focus is developing an understanding of the many dimensions of the process of research and how to translate this into long-term strategies for a successful academic career.

The course runs over three weekends and all classes are at the University of Queensland, St Lucia Campus and the course is led by Professor Robert Faff.

Dates:
Module 1: 23-24 February
Module 2: 6-7 April
Module 3: 18-19 May

This course is open to PhD students and academics at FIRN member institutions (see firn.org.au for a list of FIRN members).

PhD students are required to have the permission of this PhD supervisor(s) to enrol is this Masterclass and must complete all assessments.

Academics who are post-PhD can 'sit in' and do not have to complete the assessments.
