9am Doors open and introductions

9.30amThe Arc of the Rainbow: my aged care, loneliness and working towards SOUL (60 mins)By Michael Berry, GRAI. GRAI (GLBTI Rights in Ageing) has worked for elders over the last 15 years and will decipher the aged care system, the challenges faced by elders and how it hopes to create a SOUL-filled space for Rainbow elders in WA.

10.30amLGBTQI+: Deciphering the Alphabet Soup (60 mins) By Sarah Collins, Living Proud. We are all the experts in our own sexuality and gender identity, but do we know what the rest of the letters in the acronym mean, not to mention the many other identity terms that are part of the LGBTQI+ umbrella? And what is the mainstream understanding of LGBTQI+ and other identity terms? This session aims to clarify some identity terms we use, invite people to share their own (if they are comfortable to do so), possibly own up to the ones they don’t understand, and look at some basic principles for respecting others’ identities and getting along.

11.30am From Surviving to Thriving: LGBTQI+ Suicide Prevention and Mental Health in Western Australia (50 mins) By Bella Broadway, Connection and Wellbeing Australia. This session will address: the work that has been done in LGBTQI+ community suicide prevention and mental health; look at how inclusive practice training supports the mental health and wellbeing of the LGBTQI+ community; and highlight how events like IDAHOBIT can create visibility that can support wellbeing. It takes a village! We will talk about how the community can collaborate to support the mental health and wellbeing of the West Australian LGBTQI+ community and look at what work still needs to be done to ensure our community is thriving.

12.30pmThe role and relevance of Allies in the 2020’s (60 mins)By Kate Salinger, PFLAG WA. An interactive session exploring the role of allies and building working relationships within the community, including a young speaker outlining the importance of having support navigating life as part of the queer community.

1.30pmGay men having babies! (45 mins) By Dr Gregory Chang, Gay Dads WA. How we became parents to 4 kids via surrogacy. This includes a current overview of the legal landscape by family lawyer Marty Kavanagh and a panel discussion featuring parents who will share their personal surrogacy journey via Canada, Mexico and USA.

2.15pm Fostering with Pride (45 mins) By Sharon Chakrabarti, Key Assets Western Australia. Information will be provided about becoming a Foster Carer: what it is? Why do children come into care? Could fostering be an option for you? We will also provide an opportunity for a small number of people to engage in a VR experience. This will involve watching a short video clip about a child’s experience so people can gain an understanding of a child’s journey into care.

3pmTrans 101 (60 mins) By Hunter Gurevich & Alyce Schott, Transfolk of WA. Let’s talk about sexuality, gender, and bodies. Let’s explore the specific problems faced by trans and gender diverse people. 4pmNothing Is More Attractive Than Safe Sex (60 mins)By Joe Staniszewski and Maddison Whittle, WA Aids Council.
